Description
Our updated XT series comes with Powersaving technology as standard and includes several other important updates to the London, Durham and Canterbury design. Powersaving mode gives you the option to reduce the brightness of the light slightly in return for doubling the runtime each night which is ideal for customers that don't have a great solar panel location in their garden.
The XT series also benefits from a redesigned top piece which houses the solar panel, batteries and SMD bulb. The updated design has eliminated the potential for water ingress and the solar panel output has been increased significantly. A waterproof housing has also been added to the underside of the XT series top which shelters the batteries and circuitry from ambient moisture.

Installation
Get a good position for your light; screw down into decking or cement the lights into place. Remove the protective film from the solar panel leave switched off for 3 - 5 days then switch on and wait for evening to fall.

Question:
Worked well initially, but there is a major design flaw with the toppers that allows rainwater to gather on the top, over time this milks the plastic over the solar panel rendering them useless. A small angle engineered into the top would allow for rain runoff.
I've had these lights for around 4 years now, two sets of tops and now the main light plastic casing has cracked, time to look for a more durable replacement. By Wayne Evans on May 01, 2017 Answer:
Thank you for the feedback, over the last 4 years our tops have had two major upgrades and are as you describe with rounded top and also a powersaving mode for winter months or poor panel location. The new tops can be seen here

Question:
I received this light and placed it in full sun for a couple of days but it only works in saver mode. I have, as per instructions, switched it off and will leave it in full sun for three days then try again. Unfortunately my lovely husband had already recycled the box!! Excellent service and quality of product. Due to the shortness of the fitting screws it was a little difficult to attach the post to the base plate, but I managed in the end. It now lives on the boundary of my property and the path, so it would have been nice if the top screwed on or had a locking screw to prevent possible removal by inebriated persons on their way back from the pub - it hasn't happened yet, but when night falls it's got a lovely attractive glow so here's hoping they can resist it! They work fine, seem to stay lit until 3am. The fixing bracket too a bit of working out, then I realised they were not needed. To get then perfectly square the really need three holes in the base, not two. Having said all that I am happy with them By Lou Brown on Feb 25, 2017 Helpful? 0 | 0

Takes some fathoming to work out the fittings for the base if you haven't fitted something like this before as there are a couple of options (drill into base or fit into wet concrete) and the instructions in the packs were more about care as opposed to fitting - I ended up searching for them on line. Agree that 3 fixings would make it easier to square, and make them more sturdy, but they look great when in and I am pleased with how they look. Before I bought my Durham XT lights I had fitted other brands only to find them fail during the first wet weather - the initial set of the XT lights are still working well two years on, so I ordered two more. The only issue was that two of the mounting screws were too short to fit through the lamp base and I had to go out and buy two new ones. The other two on the second light were the correct length.
